Leading Queensland building contractors Northbuild Construction have handed over the newly completed Coomera District Police Headquarters.
The $9 million (GST exclusive) project is set to establish infrastructure for the new police district in Coomera and surrounding areas.
Following a commitment made by the Queensland Government in 2006, construction of the Single storey Coomera Police District Headquarters is now complete and fully operational. The headquarters is located on the corner of Fortune and De Barnett Streets, next to the existing Coomera Police Station, with the M1 running parallel to both of the sites.
Construction of the police headquarters consisted of a single storey building plus other associated works. The headquarters itself is steel framed with split faced block work, CFC external cladding external walls, zinc sheet eaves and cladding providing for an attractive appearance whilst offering a maintenance free exterior.
Internally the services and finishes were of a high standard to meet the buildings role as a District Headquarters. The facility is fully equipped with state-of-the-art forensic equipment, electronic and electrical services.
The finishes included joinery and work stations, vinyl and carpet flooring, acoustic ceilings and services comprising of high levels of data, security, communications wiring & mechanical services, fume cupboards and vehicle hoist etc.
Despite an extremely tight programme and some time lost to wet weather, completion of work to the District Headquarters demonstrates the good progress made by the construction teams.
Associated works included construction of a car park, road works, landscaping and the resurfacing of an existing police station car park and the road on the adjacent site.
Northbuild Construction created nearly 200 jobs on-site by sourcing local subcontractors and suppliers throughout Queensland. Northbuild sets employment goals for the engagement of on-site apprentices and trainees by allocating an administrative cadet to the project and by ensuring subcontractors engage apprentices’ on-site where possible.
Project manager, John Liddington headed the team of three - Ashley Trollope, site manager, who has recently completed work on Bundaberg Hospital; and contract administrator Markelle Findlay.
During the recent construction boom, Northbuild recognised the need to maintain and enhance relationships with the Queensland Government, and through the traditional hard dollar tender process, Northbuild has been able to secure Managing Contractor roles for larger projects. Although the Coomera Police Headquarters was won in a hard dollar environment, Northbuild had already forged good working relationships with the project team.
